Sleepy Eye 55

SLEEPY EYE — Cathedral took down Sleepy Eye 60-55 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Thursday night.

Jake Finstad, Eli Anderson, Rylan Coopman and Jack Edwards all had 13 points for Cathedral, with Edwards adding 9 rebounds and two steals.

Landon Wendinger had 19 points and 14 rebounds with eight blocks for Sleepy Eye, while Brayden Heiderscheidt had 19 points and four rebounds with three assists.

Cathedral (5-7, 5-4) plays Edgerton at Springfield on Saturday, while Sleepy Eye (6-8, 4-5) hosts Lester Prairie on Tuesday.

MVL 82, Sibley East 65

ARLINGTON — Minnesota Valley Lutheran topped Sibley East 82-65 on Thursday night in a South Central Conference boys basketball game.

Brennan Bendix led MVL with 18 points, while Connor Bode had 16 points and Luke Merseth had 15 points and seven rebounds.

Sibley East was led by Quintin DeVlaeminck’s 21 points, while Riley Bussler had 15 point. Nathan Colling and Ezra Weber each had 10 points.

MVL (7-5, 1-1) is at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial for another conference game Tuesday, while Sibley East (6-7, 1-1) hosts LeSueur-Henderson in conference action Tuesday night.

Wabasso 101, BLHS 26

WABASSO — Wabasso rolled Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 101-26 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game on Thursday.

Wabasso had six players in double digits, led by Caden Frericks with 16 and 15 Rebounds. Drew Kemp had 14 points and three rebounds, while Joe Rohlik, Calvin Hanna and Jack Burns each had 13 points. Tavyn Larson added 12 points and four rebounds for the Rabbits.

Wabasso (9-6, 5-4) travels to Canby on Monday.

Loyola 67, Madelia 65

MANKATO — Madelia took its first loss of the season as Mankato Loyola defeated the Blackhawks 67-65 in a in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game on Thursday.

Hayden Jones led Madelia with 23 points, while Kaydon Firchau had 22 points.

Madelia (11-1, 6-1) plays Atwater-Cosmose-Grove City at Springfield on Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 69, Cleveland 59

NICOLLET — Nicollet downed Cleveland 69-59 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game on Thursday.

Leah Bode led the Raiders with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, while Zoie Rengstorf had 19 points. Savannah Klockziem had 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Kamryn Truebenbach had 10 points.

Nicollet (8-6, 6-2) hosts Madelia on Friday.

BOYS HOCKEY

New Ulm 9, Worthington 0

WORTHINGTON — New Ulm cruised by Worthington 9-0 in a Big South Conference boys hockey game on Thursday.

Carson Uecker scored two goals with an assist in the game, as did Hunter Larson. Ian Brudelie, Keaton Weston and Talan Helget each had a goal and an assist, and Brody Nordby and Trevan Thordson each had a goal. Brecken Neuman had two assists, and Brody Wenner, Jack Griebel, Ben Alfred and Jaxon Buegler had an assist. Graham Glaser had 25 saves.

New Ulm (9-6-1, 6-2) hosts Rochester Lourdes on Saturday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

New Ulm 5, Worthington 0

WORTHINGTON — New Ulm defeated Worthington 5-0 in a Big South Conference girls hockey game on Thursday.

Tristyn Wolner had two goals for the Eagles, while Madalyn Olson had a goal and an assist. Callie Haugen and Abby Forstner each had a goal, and Jersey Haugen and Mya Hornick each had two assists. Brielynn Weston added an assist for New Ulm.

New Ulm (9-10-2, 2-4-1) hosts Marshall on Tuesday.

PREP WRESTLING

New Ulm sweeps at Waseca tri

WASECA — New Ulm went 2-0 in a prep wrestling triangular on Thursday, defeating Waseca 56-17 and St. Peter 47-22.

Reagan Johnson earned his 50th career varsity win in the triangular in a 2-0 night. Braxton Kiecker had two pins for New Ulm at 145, as did Lane Ruch at 189.
