NEW ULM — Rochester Lourdes scored two goals in the first period and then added a third goal just 59 seconds into the second period as they bumped the New Ulm Eagles 3-1 Saturday afternoon in nonconference boys hockey at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Jack Roe, Owen Hoehn and Nolan DuBois scored goals for Lourdes (9-5-1).

Hunter Larson scored the lone goal for New Ulm (9-7-2), with Carson Uecker getting the lone assist.

Lourdes goaltender Anton Ackley stopped 21 of 22 New Ulm shots while New Ulm netminder Graham Glaser halted 18 of 21 Rochester Lourdes shots.

Lourdes jumped to that three-goal lead that set New Ulm on its heels, which is something that Neuman spoke to his team about.

“That is something that we addressed with the team after the game,” he said. “We have to stop spotting teams goals, especially come playoff time. You do not want to be playing from behind — it makes the game harder. We have to come out better to start the game.”

Roe’s power-play goal and a Hoehn one-timer from the high slot made it 2-0 after the first 17 minutes.

“You do not want to be down by two goals early in the first period,” Neuman said.

Dubois’ goal less than a minute into the second period had Lourdes up 3-0.

But that momentum was halted shortly after Larson’s score when New Ulm was called for a five-minute major for checking from behind.

And while New Ulm killed four minutes of that penalty (before Rochester was called for a penalty), the Eagles were essentially playing defense killing the penalty.

New Ulm hosts Luverne Friday at the New Ulm Civic Center in a Big South Conference game.
