Area roundup: Wendinger passes 1,000 career points for Sleepy Eye

Wabasso 84, Sleepy Eye 81
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye’s Landon Wendinger scored 17 points to surpass 1,000 career points on Friday. However, the Rabbits were able to secure a 84-84 win in the Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Cole Frericks led Wabasso in the win with 19 points and 20 rebounds, while Drew Kemp had 21 points and five rebounds and five assists. Brayden Guetter had 16 points and eight rebounds with four assists and three steals, while Joe Rohlik had 12 points, three rebounds and four assists.
Wendinger also had 12 rebounds and five blocks in the game for Sleepy Eye, while Brayden Heiderscheidt had 17 points, five rebounds and five assists. Eric Lozano had 19 points and five rebounds for the Indians.
Wabasso (10-7, 6-5) travels to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Tuesday. Sleepy Eye (7-9, 4-6) travels to Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Monday.
Springfield 77, St. Mary’s 52
SPRINGFIELD — Springfield defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 77-52 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game Friday.
Parker Kuehn had 14 points and five rebounds for the Tigers, while Madden Lendt had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Braydon Sturm had 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Brecken Heiling had 11 points and four rebounds.
No stats were reported for St. Mary’s.
Springfield (15-1, 9-1) travels to play Cedar Mountain on Tuesday. St. Mary’s (7-8, 4-6) plays at Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Monday.

Hayden Jones led Madelia, scoring 36 points with nine 3-pointers. Tate Becker had 16 points and eight rebounds,, while Kaydon Firschau had 13 points and six assists.

ST. PETER — St. Peter defeated New Ulm 88-70 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game on Friday.
Mitchell Hopp led the Eagles with 15 points, while Levi Hopp and Nick Risen had 12 points each.

Cole Jacobson led the Thunderbirds with 22 points, while Easton Taylor had 11 points.

NICOLLET — Mankato Loyola defeated Nicollet 77-69 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game on Friday.
Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 22 points and five rebounds, while Henry Kennedy had 12 points and eight assists. AJ Kramer had 12 points and six rebounds, while Henry Oscarson added 12 points.

ST. JAMES — New Ulm defeated St. James 134.575-115.125 in a Big South Conference prep gymnastics meet Friday.
Josie Sellner won the all-around meet with a score of 34.175, placing first on the floor (9.2) and bars (8.525), and fourth on beam (8.1) and vault (8.35). Sophia Berger placed second all around (33.5), taking second on and bars (8.275) and third on beam (8.425) and the floor (8.6). Matilda Klawitter won the vault event (8.725) and the beam (8.75) and took second on the floor (8.725), while Alaina Blomberg took second on beam (8.475) and third on bars (8.05). Avarey Sellner placed second on vault (8.65) fifth on the floor (8.475), and Isabelle Longtin placed fifth on vault (8.325).
New Ulm (5-3) closes the regular season on Monday at Marshall.

Cadence Okerman had 19 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Indians, while Paige Haala had 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Kayla Hecht scored 15 points, while Taylor Berkner had 14 points, four assists and four rebounds
Elizabeth Morin led the Rabbits with 11 points and three rebounds, while Ava Samyn had 8 points and seven rebounds.

MORGAN — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart defeated Cedar Mountain 60-51 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game Friday.
Aubrey Steffl led the Cougars with 22 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and seven steals, while Kendra Erickson had 13 points and seven rebounds. Grace Hamre added 10 points and four rebounds.
