NEW ULM — New Ulm Middle School will be hosting a “Card the Yard” event Friday, celebrating the ninth-grade wrestling team’s state tournament trip.

The event will be open all day at the light up sign outside the middle school. A large sign will go up to pose with, reading “NGL state bound 2025.” The sign will be a way of sending off the wrestlers to state in style and those interested can get out and pose by the sign for photos.

The team participated in the state tournament starting on Jan 18. New Ulm won its first match against Two Rivers 57-13 before falling to Becker in the second round 46-27. The Eagles then won in the first round of the consolation bracket over Detroit Lakes 60-16 before falling to Canby 40-35.

The team also has several individuals who will be attending the individual state wrestling tournament on Feb. 1. Anna Pollard, Karli Horner, Chase Wilson and Cole Voges will all be participating. The state tournament will be held at Chaplin Park.
