Area roundup: DeMaris, Taylor each reach 1,000-point milestones
BOYS BASKETBALL
Madelia 82, ACGE 42
MADELIA — Josiah DeMaris scored his 1,000th career point and led Madelia past Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 82-42 on Tuesday night in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division boys basketball game.
DeMaris ended up with a game-high 20 points, while Kyle Pietsch had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Hayden Jones finished with 16 points, while Kaydon Firchau had 13 points.
Madelia (15-3, 9-2) hosts Cleveland on Friday.
Springfield 78, GFW 41
WINTHROP — Easton Taylor scored his 1,000th career point on Tuesday for Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, but Springfield ended up with a 78-41 win in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Bryan Buerkle led the Tigers with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Isaac Fredlin had 15 points, three rebounds and four assists. Madden Lendt scored 13 points and 11 rebounds. Brecken Heiling added 11 points. Parker Kuehn and Brayden Sturm each had six rebounds.
Taylor led the Thunderbirds with 15 points and Cole Jacobson had 14 points.
Springfield (18-1, 12-1) will host Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart (0-18, 0-12) on Thursday. GFW (7-11, 4-7) will play at Sleepy Eye (8-11, 5-8) on Friday.
Maple River 85, MVL 60
MAPLETON — Maple River downed Minnesota Valley Lutheran 85-60 on Friday in a South Central Conference boys basketball game.
Owen Birkholz led the Chargers with 17 points. Trace Gunderson, Pierson Brau and Brennan Bendix each scored 7 points.
Cole Davis led the Eagles with 25 points, while Wyatt Birr scored 24 points and had eight rebounds. Avery Bergmann scored 11 points.
MVL (10-9, 2-4) will host Sibley East (6-11, 1-4) on Friday.
Cedar Mountain 74, St. Mary’s 41
MORGAN — Cedar Mountain defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 74-41 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game.
Blake Schueller led the Cougars with 32 points and 15 rebounds while Blake Steffl scored 20 points with eight rebounds and 12 assists.
No statistics were provided for St. Mary’s.
Cedar Mountain (16-3, 13-1) will play at New Ulm Cathedral (8-11, 6-6) on Friday. St. Mary’s (8-12, 4-8) will play at Lester Prairie on Friday.

NICOLLET — Nicollet downed Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey 80-66 on Tuesday in a nonconference boys basketball game.
Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 27 points while Henry Kennedy had 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Henry Oscarson scored 14 points, and Keegan Hulke had 13 points.
Nicollet (7-12, 4-6) will host New Richland/Heartland/Ellendale/Geneva on Thursday. MLA/C (3-16, 3-9) will play at Southwest Minnesota Christian on Thursday.
St. Clair 56, Sibley East 53
ARLINGTON — St. Clair defeated Sibley East 56-53 in a South Central boys basketball game on Tuesday.
Evan Pautsch led the Wolverines with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Quintin DeVlaeminck had 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Sibley East (6-12) travels to Minnesota Valley Lutheran on Friday.

TCU 65, MVL 24
MONTGOMERY — Tri-City United raced past Minnesota Valley Lutheran 65-44 on Tuesday in a nonconference girls basketball game.
Avery Freier led the Chargers with 8 points, four rebounds and two steals. Olivia Hammer had 6 points and four rebounds.
Audrey Vosejpka led the Titans with 12 points and Sophie Whipps added 10 points.
MVL (10-10, 1-4) will host Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial on Thursday.
St. Mary’s 90, Cedar Mountain 35
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s rolled Cedar Mountain 90-35 on Tuesday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game.
Morgan Mathiowetz led all scorers with 34 points, three rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals. Natalie Fischer added 16 points, two assists and three steals. Brynne Ibberson scored 10 points with eight rebounds, three assists and six steals. Amelia Schwartz scored 9 points and had four rebounds. Olivia Schieffert had 6 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Grace Hamre led the Cougars with 10 points, six rebounds and six assists. Kendra Erickson scored 7 points and added four rebounds. Marlie Wildt had 5 points and eight rebounds.
Cedar Mountain was without leading scorer Aubrey Steffl due to illness.
St. Mary’s (20-1, 13-0) will host Granada-Huntley/East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Thursday. Cedar Mountain (14-9, 7-7) will host New Ulm Cathedral (4-16, 3-10) on Thursday.

Olivia Milbrath led the Tigers with 10 points and 13 rebounds, while Katie Thram had 6 points and five rebounds.
