Area roundup: Diehn leads Cedar Mountain girls by Cathedral

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Cedar Mountain 63, Cathedral 43

MORGAN — Cedar Mountain rolled New Ulm Cathedral 63-43 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Thursday.

Brooklyn Diehn led the Cougars with 19 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Aubrey Steffl had 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Kendra Erickson added 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Shay Wilfahrt led Cathedral with 14 points, while Brynn Wilfahrt had 8 points. Ashlyn Hillesheim added 7 points for the Greyhounds.

Cedar Mountain (15-9, 8-7) hosts Wabasso on Tuesday. Cathedral (4-18, 3-12) travels to Red Rock Central on Monday.

Sleepy Eye 92, GFW 46

WINTHROP — Sleepy Eye cruised by Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 92-46 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division girls basketball game on Thursday.

Paige Haala led the Indians with 25 points, while Kayla Hecht had 15 points. Cadence Okerman added 13 points for Sleepy Eye.

Nicole Duehn led the Thunderbirds with 13 points, while Kora Schwarzrock and Taylor Bauer each had 7 points.

Sleepy Eye (16-7, 12-3) travels to Mountain Lake Area on Monday, while GFW (4-17) travels to Nicollet on Monday.

St. Mary’s 98, GHEC/T/ML 44

SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s rolled Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther 98-44 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover game on Thursday.

Morgan Mathiowetz led the Knights with 32 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals, while Olivia Schieffert had 27 points, nine assists, five rebounds and five steals. Brynne Ibberson had 13 points and four rebounds, while Natalie Fischer had 12 points and three assists.

St. Mary’s (21-1) travels to Lester Prairie on Friday.

Loyola 60, Nicollet 56

MANKATO — Mankato Loyola defeated Nicollet 60-56 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Valley Division girls basketball game on Thursday.

Leah Bode led the Raiders with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Savannah Klockziem had 17 points and five steals. Cheyenne Klockziem added 9 points and 12 rebounds for Nicollet.

Nicollet (10-10, 7-4) hosts Houston on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Nicollet 74, NRHEG 51

NICOLLET — Nicollet downed New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 74-51 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Carson Kettner led the Raiders with 18 points and five rebounds, while Keegan Hulke had 17 points and five rebounds. Henry Oscarson had 11 points and seven rebounds, AJ Kramer had 11 points, and Henry Kennedy had 10 points and five rebounds.

Nicollet (8-12) hosts Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Friday.

Springfield 91, BLHS 38

HECTOR — Springfield rolled Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 91-38 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Division boys basketball game Thursday.

All 12 Tigers that played in the game scored, led by Brecken Heiling, Parker Kuehn and Brayden Sturm with 14 points each. Sturm added 14 rebounds and six assists, and Dylan Simonson had 12 points.

Springfield (19-1, 13-1) travels to Central Minnesota Christian on Friday.
