Weekend area roundup: Levi Hopp drops 40 in Eagles’ rout
BOYS BASKETBALL
New Ulm 97, TCU 51
MONTGOMERY — The New Ulm Eagles were so dominant Saturday in their Big South Conference boys basketball game with Tri-City United that they could take away all of their sophomore Levi Hopp’s points and still win.
Levi Hopp scored 40 points to lead all scorers and help lift the Eagles to 8-14 overall and 3-10 in the conference. Zach Hubbard and Nick Risen each had 10 points also for New Ulm, while Mitchell Hopp added 9 points and Owen Castleman scored 8. Brady Dennis, Dain Barie and Tanner Backer each chipped in 5 points.
Jaylen Nhem had 17 points to lead TCU (0-24, 0-15).
New Ulm is at Belle Plaine on Monday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
New Ulm 76, TCU 61
MONTGOMERY — The New Ulm Eagles girls basketball team earned a 76-61 win over Tri-City United on Saturday afternoon in a Big South Conference game.
Brooklyn Lewis led the way for New Ulm with 16 points and five rebounds, while Ramsey Hopp had 16 points and three rebounds. Maggie Joyce added 12 points, while Betsy Joyce had 11 points.
New Ulm (17-7, 12-3) hosts Redwood Valley on Tuesday in their regular season home finale.
Nicollet 54, GHEC 44
NICOLLET — Nicollet won its fourth game in a row with a 54-44 win over Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Saturday in a Valley Division girls basketball game.
Nicollet moved to 14-10 overall and 8-4 in the Valley with the win.
Cheyenne Klockziem led the way for the Raiders with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Savannah Klockziem had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Leah Bode had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals, while Jazmyn Goettlicher had 7 points, four assists and four steals and Kamryn Truebenbach had 5 points.
Londyn Bowers led GHEC/ML/T with 16 points, while Keira Benck had 10 points.

Cedar Mountain 78, Madelia 35
MADELIA — Cedar Mountain finished its regular season with a dominant win over Madelia on Friday night, winning 78-35 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover girls basketball game.
Aubrey Steffl led the Cougars (17-9) with 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Marlie Wildt had 14 points and five rebounds. Brooklyn Diehn added 11 points, four rebounds and five steals, while Grace Hamre had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists and Kendra Erickson had 8 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
No statistics were reported for Madelia (3-22), which hosts New Ulm Cathedral on Tuesday.
