GIRLS BASKETBALL

New Ulm 89, Hutchinson 47

HUTCHINSON — New Ulm cruised by Hutchinson 89-47 in a nonconference girls basketball game on Thursday.

Brooklyn Lewis led the Eagles with 24 points and three rebounds, while Maddie Backer had 19 points with five 3-pointers and three rebounds. Morgan Hulke added 11 points and four rebounds.

New Ulm finishes the regular season with a 19-7 record and awaits playoff seeding to play on Wednesday.

YME 84, Wabasso 47

GRANITE CITY — Yellow Medicine East topped Wabasso 84-47 in a Section 3A girls basketball tournament game.

Elizabeth Morin led the Rabbits with 20 points and 11 rebounds with five blocks, while Ava Samyn had 9 points and four rebounds.

Wabasso ends the season with a 1-26 record.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cedar Mountain 76, Madelia 56

MADELIA — Cedar Mountain downed Madelia 76-56 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover boys basketball game on Thursday.

Blake Schueller led the Cougars with 25 points, 14 rebounds and six steals, while Blake Steffl had 23 points, 11 assists and three rebounds. Carson Schiller added 15 points and four rebounds for Cedar Mountain.

Kaydon Firchau led Madelia with 20 points, while Tate Becker had 11 points.

Cedar Mountain (21-3) hosts Canby on Friday, while Madelia (18-5) hosts Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday.

Redwood Valley 89, New Ulm 80

REDWOOD FALLS — Redwood Valley topped New Ulm 89-80 in a Big South Conference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Mitchell Hopp led the Eagles with 24 points, while Levi Hopp had 14 points. Zach Hubbard, Nick Risen and Owen Castleman each had 8 points for New Ulm.

New Ulm (9-15, 4-11) hosts St. James Area on Monday.

MCW 69, GFW 67

WINTHROP — Martin County West defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 69-67 in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover boys basketball game on Thursday.

Cole Jacobson led the Thunderbirds with 38 points, while Easton Taylor had 9 points. Layton Hamre added 7 points for GFW.

GFW (8-16) travels to Madelia on Friday.

St. Clair 73, MVL 66

ST. CLAIR — St. Clair defeated Minnesota Valley Lutheran 73-66 in a South Central Conference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Pierson Brau led the Chargers with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Blake Sexton had 11 points. Luke Merseth added 8 points, five assists and three rebounds.

MVL (11-12, 3-6) closes the regular season with a game at Le Sueur-Henderson on Friday.

Sibley East 74, BLHS 31

ARLINGTON — Sibley East snapped an 11-game losing streak with a 74-31 win over Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart on Thursday in a nonconference boys basketball game.

Quintin DeVlaeminck led the Wolverines with 20 points, three rebounds and three steals, while Will Feterl had 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Evan Pautsh added 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

No statistics were reported for BLHS.

Sibley East (7-16) travels to Maple River on Friday.

SJA 82, St. Mary’s 64

ST. JAMES — St. James Area defeated Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s 82-64 in a nonconference boys basketball game Thursday.

Kessler Severson led the Knights with 18 points and four rebounds, while George Schwint had 15 points and four rebounds. Adam Steffensmeier had 11 points, and Tyler Mathiowetz had 10 points and three assists.

St. Mary’s (10-15) hosts Cleveland on Tuesday.

CMC 79, Wabasso 64

PRINSBURG — Central Minnesota Christian downed Wabasso 79-64 in a nonconference boys basketball game on Thursday.

Brayden Guetter led the Rabbits with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Drew Kemp had 15 points. Caden Frericks and Joe Rohlik each had 10 points for Wabasso.

Wabasso (14-10) travels to Lester Prairie on Friday.
