Tough first half hurts Tigers in quarterfinals loss to MCW
ST. PETER — The Springfield Tigers put together a better second-half effort on Thursday night against Martin County West, but it was too late as the fourth-seeded Mavericks held off the fifth-seeded Tigers 47-40 in a Section 2A Girls Basketball Tournament quarterfinals game at St. Peter High School.
The Tigers trailed 22-9 at halftime.
Emma Hauger led the Tigers with 11 points and five rebounds, while Jasmine Novotny had 10 points, six rebounds and three steals. Jada Reese had 9 points also for the Tigers, while Olivia Milbrath had 8 points, eight rebounds and two assists.
The Tigers finish their season 15-12, while the Mavericks move on to a semifinals matchup with Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. Monday at Gustavus Adolphus College.
