MLC’s Morris, Dorn, Gawrisch get All-Conference recognition

ST. PAUL — The Martin Luther College women’s basketball added some additional achievements to their 2024-25 season as the UMAC Women’s basketball postseason awards were announced on Wednesday.

Mya Morris transferred in from Crown this season and the sophomore didn’t miss a beat getting acquainted with the MLC system. The sophomore was named First Team All-UMAC, finishing first on MLC and fourth in the conference in scoring (14.7 ppg). The point guard also broke the MLC single-season record for most 3-point field goals (82). Additionally, Morris was second on the team in assists (50) and tied the MLC single-game record for made 3-pointers (7).

Emma Dorn capped off her fifth-year senior season with Honorable Mention accolades. Dorn averaged 11.0 ppg, which was second on the team, and secured 171 rebounds, putting her first on the team and fifth in the UMAC. Dorn leaves the Knights’ program as the all-time leading rebounder (693), fourth in points (1,031), and made field goals (406).

Head coach Dan Gawrisch was voted the UMAC Coach of the Year after coaching the Knights to the UMAC tournament as the No. 4 seed. MLC made their first appearance in the conference postseason semifinal since the 2016-17 season and finished with a 16-10 overall, 9-5 UMAC record.

MLC’s 16 wins were the most under Gawrisch since the 2011-12 team (20 wins) that went to the NCAA tournament under the late Larry Czer.

The 2024-25 MLC team broke several single-game team records this season, including the most points (100 at Northland), the largest margin of victory (60 at Northland), the most 3-point field goals made (14 at Crown), and the most rebounds (69 at Northland). The Knights also made 223 3-pointers as a team, breaking the single-season record for that category.

Junior Emily Wittig was the MLC representative for the All-Sportsmanship team.
