PREP BASEBALL
Wabasso 5, Canby 3
WABASSO — Wabasso edged Canby on Friday 5-3 in a nonconference baseball game.
Kaysen Harms had a single, one stolen base and two runs scored for Wabasso, while Caden Frericks had a single and two RBIs. Jack Burns added a single with two stolen bases.
Zach Skoblik was the winning pitcher. He went four innings and he gave up two runs on four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Calvin Hanna earned the save, going three innings and giving up one run on one hit and three walks while striking out two batters.
Wabasso will travel to Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday for a doubleheader.
Madelia 8, GFW 1
MADELIA — Madelia downed Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 8-1 on Friday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover baseball game.
Noel Davilla went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead Madelia, while Tate Becker went 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Evan Coil went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Dalton Tatro went 1 for 4 with a run scored.
Zachary Jacobs earned the win on the mound for Madelia. He pitched four innings and gave up no runs on one hit and two walks while striking out nine batters.
Owen Swenson took the loss for GFW on the mound. He pitched two innings and gave up seven hits and three walks for eight runs. He struck out six. Will Bastian scored GFW’s lone run.
GSL 6, Sibley East 5
GAYLORD — Glencoe-Silver Lake edged Sibley East on Friday in a nonconference baseball game.
Nate Colling led the Wolverines going 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI. Caden Willmsen went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Will Feterl went 2 for 4 with a run scored. Riley Bussler went 1 for 2 and had a run scored and one RBI.
Sibley East (2-1) will play at Waseca on Saturday.
PREP SOFTBALL
SESM 13, GFW 3 (6 innings)
SLEEPY EYE — Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s defeated Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on Friday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference, Tomahawk Divison softball game.
Eva Schweiss led the Knights going 4 for 4 with a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Josie Helget went 2 for 3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Olivia Schieffert went 1 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Sidney Tauer weint 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Taylor Mathiowetz went 1 for 3 with an RBI and one run scored.
Nell Weiss earned the win. She struck out seven, walked five batters, allowed five hits and she hit three batters.
No statistics were reported for GFW.
St. Mary’s will travel to Wabasso on Monday for a doubleheader.
Springfield 14, MLA/C 9
MOUNTAIN LAKE — Springfield scored in all but two innings as the Tigers held off Mountain Lake/Comfrey 14-9 on Friday in a nonconference softball game.
Jada Reese went 4 for 5 with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead Springfield. Jasmine Novotny was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two RBIs also for the Tigers, while Abby Groebner went 2 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Makay Winkelmann went 2 for 5 with three RBIs, while Regan Beadell went 1 for 4 with one run scored.
Kali Nachreiner had one RBI, while Emma Hauger went 2 for 5 with one run scored.
Springfield (3-2, 3-2) will host Lester Prairie on Monday in a doubleheader.
Wabasso 14, RTR 4

WABASSO — Wabasso cruised past Russell-Tyler-Ruthton 14-4 in five innings on Friday in a nonconference softball game.
The Rabbits scored five runs in the first inning, three more in the fourth and six runs in the fifth inning for the win. RTR had six errors.
Alexa Jenniges was the winning pitcher for the Rabbits as she went five innings and gave up four runs on four hits and two walks while fanning two.
Alivia Olson went 2 for 4 with three RBIs to lead Wabasso at the plate, while Macy Rohlik 2 for 4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Camryn Irlbeck went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI also for Wabasso, while Audrey Johnson went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Courtesy runner Delaina Eis had three runs scored.
Wabasso (4-1, 3-1) will host Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s on Monday in a doubleheader.
BLHS 9, Madelia 1
MADELIA — Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart downed Madelia on Friday in a Tomahawk-Valley Conference crossover softball game.
Jolyn Kramer went 1 for 2 with two runs scored for BLHS. Hallie Best, Sadie Kirtz and Elizabeth Ovitt each scored two runs. Chloe Schultz got the win for BLHS in the circle, pitching all seven innings and allowing six hits and a walk for one run while striking out 11.
Veronica Ibeling went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored for Madelia, while Kellie Koberoski was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Makayla Sorenson took the loss in the circle in all seven innings, allowing four hits and seven walks for five earned runs while striking out nine.
Madelia (3-2, 1-1) will travel to Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons on Monday. BLHS (0-3, 0-2) will participate in a tournament with Nicollet and Sibley East at Nicollet High School on Saturday.

SEU boys, girls win at Fox Lake
SHERBURN — The Sleepy Eye United boys and girls golf teams took first at Fox Lake Golf Club on Friday, with the boys shooting a 159 and the girls shooting a 198.
Springfield took second in the boys’ side of the meet with a 173, followed by Martin County West (175) and New Ulm Cathedral (178). The MCW girls took second with a 249, while Cathedral took third with a 265.
MCW’s Kale Larson shot a 34 to finish as the boys medalist, while SEU’s Nolan Kucera took second with a 36 and teammate Isaac Christensen shot a 39 for third. Cathedral’s Owen Strei shot a 40 to take fourth, while Springfield’s Dylan Simonson shot a 41 for fifth.
The girls medalist was SEU’s Sam Price with a 44, while MCW’s Brenna Heifner and SEU’s Kiara Murphy both shot a 50 to tie for second. SEU’s Ella Pollard turned in a 51 for fourth, while Cathedral’s Emma Hoffmann shot a 53 to tie for fifth with SEU’s Chloe Walter.
MVL boys 181, Cedar Mountain 188
MVL girls 245, Cedar Mountain 248
FAIRFAX — Minnesota Valley Lutheran participated in a home golf meet Friday at the Mayflower Golf Course. The MVL boys won the meet with a score of 181, while Cedar Mountain had a 188.
The MVL girls won with a 245 over Cedar Mountain, which turned in a 248.
Nathaniel Lukasek of MVL was the medalist with a score of 41. MVL’s Philip Lukasek and Cedar Mountain’s Thomas Dahmes each shot a 43. MVL’s James Osterman and Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller each shot a 48.
Cedar Mountain’s Bailey Woodford was the girls medalist with a 52. Kara Hinrichsen of MVL carded a 54, while Cedar Mountain’s Jaylen Welter scored a 58. Emma Beussman of MVL scored a 60 and Claire Sherman of Cedar Mountain shot a 61.

BUFFALO LAKE — The Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop boys and girls golf teams won a prep golf meet on Thursday at Oakdale Golf Club.
The boys medalist was GFW’s Carson Lee, while Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart’s Evan Pierce was second with a 49. GFW’s Brenden Lee (50) and Lincoln McCue (50) tied for third, while Cole Jacobson shot a 52 for fifth. Wabasso’s top boys golfer Brayden Guetter shot a 61 for ninth.
The girls medalist was BLHS’s Ava Ahlbrecht, who shot a 52. GFW’s Anika Lee followed with a 59, while teammate Kjerssa Jasinski shot a 61 for third. Wabasso’s Josie Wiese shot a 64 for fourth, while teammates Alexis Jensen and Heidi Foy shot a 66 to tie for fifth.
BOYS TENNIS
Waconia 4, New Ulm 3
WACONIA — Waconia defeated New Ulm 4-3 on Friday in a nonconference boys tennis match.
New Ulm won at No. 2 singles when Ian Schotzko downed Winston Henriksen 6-4, 6-2. New Ulm’s Dan Brownfield won at No. 3 singles over Fin Neenan 6-2, 6-0, while New Ulm’s Isaac Dittmer defeated Oscar Butler at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-2.
