SEU boys lead opening round of Tomahawk-Valley golf tourney
SHERBURN — The Sleepy Eye United boys golf team led the field after the opening round of the first-ever Tomahawk-Valley Boys Golf Tournament on Monday, shooting a 322 to finish first at Fox Lake Golf Club.
Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther took second with a 337, followed by New Ulm Cathedral (340), Springfield (358), Alden-Conger (359), Cedar Mountain (360), Madelia (373), Martin County West (383), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (389) and Wabasso (506). Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart was incomplete.
Cathedral’s Owen Strei shot a 73 in the 18-hole first round to finish as the medalist, while Cedar Mountain’s Blake Schueller carded a 74 for second. GHEC/T/ML’s Gavin Kester shot a 76 for third, while SEU’s Blaine Arneson shot a 77 for fourth and MCW’s Knox Larson, Cathedral’s Carter Wilson and SEU’s Isaac Christensen all shot an 80 to tie for sixth. Cedar Mountain’s Carson Schiller and GHEC’s Landon Zimmer each shot an 81 to tie for eighth, while Alden-Conger’s Ryan Hintz and SEU’s Anders Coulson shot 82s to tie for 10th.
The second leg of the tournament is scheduled to tee off at 10 a.m. May 5 in Sleepy Eye.
