SEU girls lead Leg 1 of Tomahawk-Valley golf tourney

ALDEN — The Sleepy Eye United girls led the way Monday during the opening leg of the first-ever Tomahawk-Valley Conference Girls Golf Tournament at Oakview Golf Course, with a score of 400.

Springfield was second with a 462, followed by Alden-Conger (469), Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (511), Martin County West (515), Madelia (516), Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (517), New Ulm Cathedral (528), Cedar Mountain (530) and Wabasso (554). Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart was incomplete.

The 18-hole first round saw SEU’s Sam Price tie with Springfield’s Mavri Winkelmann for the top spot on the leaderboard as both players shot a 92.

GFW’s Anika Lee tied with SEU’s Ella Pollard for third on Day 1 with a 101, while SEU’s Chloe Walter shot a 102 for fifth, Alden-Conger’s Courtney Bakkedahl shot a 103 for sixth and SEU’s Kiara Murphy shot a 105 for seventh. Rounding out the top 10 finishers were Madelia’s Katherine Devlaeminck (109), BLHS’s Ava Ahlbrecht (109) and Springfield’s Ava Lipetzky (111). Cathedral’s Emma Hoffmann just missed the top 10 with a 111.

The second leg of the girls tourney is scheduled for 10 a.m. May 5 in Springfield.
